Pros and cons of marketing?

Consideration of any benefits and disbenefits marketing offers to both organisations and customers

Marketing is necessary for any business. How else are you going to figure out if your product is needed or wanted? How else are you going to understand the market? How else are you going to be able to come up with a strategy? How else are you going to communicate your message? I think you are asking the wrong question.

Pros:
Exposure to wider market
Exposure to wider range within target demographic
name recognition
Drive competition costs up such that it can impact other spending areas for them (IE R&D, production costs etc.)

Cons:
Costs money
Effectiveness questionable and hard to track (easier now with targeted marketing)

The benefits are obvious, however the cons are of course cost and inability to handle the results of a successful campaign.

Many business embark on marketing campaigns with the idea that they want more business but they do not take the time to put the structure in place to support it. This hurts the business because of lack in quality customer services or supply to meet the demand. This lack of planning can ruin the reputation an burgeoning business.
