Why are some commercials getting increasingly stupid?

cases in point: the mac commercial and the alltel commercial.

in the mac one, mac and pc guys are trying to top each other but pc is supposed to look really lame. mac is supposed to be the "cool dude" is it just me or did they purposely hire a "hot" guy for this position?

in the alltel christmas commercials especially, the "other guys' are tryint o ruin christmas by stealing the phones or whatever. but then elves and reindeer chase them into a car and beat up the car while the guys scream and yell.

it seems to me that these companies must be doing pretty badly if they have os many of these commerciasl and feel the need to lower other companies to make themselves look good. they aren't even funny, they just sound desperate and cheap cuz they can't think of anything better.

I agee. Ever see the one where the dad is passing out all the phones and telling his family members they're number one. Next time you see it, pay attention to the wife exercising. What the HELL kinda workout is she doing? Whatever it is, she looks completely stupid, in my opinion....

Some marketers know that despite being annoying or stupid, it had an effect on you. Their goal was probably just to get brand recognition.

The goal is to get the product in your head, which they did because you are talking about here. The fact that you remember the products names shows it was a successful ad campaign.

Unfortunately, it seems, some advertising companies lack creative IMAGINATION, and because they are very limited in their potential, are just not able to see over the top of the hurdle, how to bring an entertainment into the lounge room.
Here, in Australia, we are fortunate at times, as there seems to be a company highly talented and imaginitive, and I find myself actually looking forward to seeing where the advert is heading, as far as story line goes, and so often, the beginning draws you in, and its a story, and ends up quite quickly and unexpectedly with a clever, witty touch of humour.
I love them!!! others, depending where you are, are purely, and justifyably quite childish and immature in their presentations......and one would'nt have a clue in the end, just what it was they were advertising!!!
Advertising, has to be an ART!!! It can be very clever, inspirational, unexpected, and good acting. it all has to do with photography, the script, and the casting of the actors....i would have enjoyed working in advertising!!
