How to write a business proposal?

I work for a charity and want to involve a business in a collaboration that would definately benefit the business and would raise the profile of our charity. I have never done this before and I get one shot at this. Can you help me or show me an example of a short proposal? Free advice would be welcome. it seems that the web is full of business wanting us to buy help..

The other thing I would do is maybe speak with a large organisation you already deal with (even if they supply you!) - explain what you are doing and ask for their assistance. Am sure most would be pos+ about assisting a charity. If you can't identify one you know, speak with your local chamber of commerce and see if they can direct you. That way you can build the proposal in "real time" rather than sitting in an office trying to dream up the perfect pitch. By the way there is (imho) no right way, a one slide presentation can do the job as well as a 100 page detailed business plan - it just needs to fit the audience and your objectives. Good Luck

if you google writing a business proposal you will find alot of what you need. Use what is helpful forget the rest. Big thing is the proposal needs to say where you are, where you want to be and how you are going to get there.

I know how you feel. I'm currently trying to draft one for a project I'm doing (I have to ask local businesses for their support among other people). The best place I've found for information has been http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_pl...

it doesn't offer any examples, but it explains what each part is in some pretty good detail.

I found a fancy template online.

But I've only had to write them for uni courses before. The most important thing is that it includes a good executive summery. The rest is just supporting your summery.

Maybe try to check out a Marketing textbook from a local university library. Or make photocopies while you are there. (most uni's allow the public to at least view their books).

there's free advice here:

ever thought a out who's business you ask such bing brand names love to out their name on anything i reckon i could get nike to sponser a child in africa if i told them he'd wear there clothing lines, but small to mid sized businesses need more of a return, maybe just localized advertising a lot of in and around the people profiling, and what you offer to the business as a person and not just a charity, but expect everthing for nothing,

So you will be asking that commercial business to get involved into Societal Marketing approaches. Before writing a Business Proposal, first ask yourself a few questions:

- Does your charity, as a product; would be any benefit to their Market Segment?
- Are your charity activities having any correlation with their business?
- Will supporting your cause will somehow build their company or product image?
- What good will it brings to that commercial organization in quantifiable monetary terms?
- Will they get any sort of direct tax exemption(s) in addition to the monetary benefits?

Incorporate all the benefits in the cover letter or a write-up explaining them briefly.

Quote the cost of participation.

Establish the terms of doing businesses with your charity organization.

What you need is not business proposal but proposal to business. The words you need to google out are 'Sponsorship proposal". There are plenty on the net. Other articles you need to read will be under 'Fund raising campaigns".
