Any Good Tips For Dealing With Marketing Cold Callers In The Workplace...?

I seem to have been placed on some marketing list as I'm getting a lot of cold calls from people trying to sell new systems. Now if I'm at home and get calls like this, I'm very blunt and they tend to get the message very quickly. But I don't think my normal out-of-office responses would be appropriate so can anyone give me some good tips for getting these people to leave me alone? Any advice, tips, etc greatly received!

It's better not to do any of these: delay the response to them/ divert them/ be rude to them/ tell them "not at the moment" etc.

What they need to hear is a genuine reason why you're not likely to be interested for the next 5 years. Saying something like: you're not the main decision maker/ you have signed a 5 year contact to outsource help etc will get better results. Sales people thrive on negativity so that will never put them off; they'll just call again in 6 months when you're in a better mood. Give them a good reason to go away.

Thanks, but we are happy with our current system(s), and they are not due for review for at least a year.

I always transfer them to my fax machine.

we get the same thing here at my office, im the manager and have to mantain some decorum but now i just tell them to f u c k off or failing that another ploy we have is we keep a hong kong number to hand and say they need to call that and speak to the boss

I think you can be quite blunt even in the workplace, just don't use bad language, "We'll contact you if we require any of your services" usually suffices.

Just tell 'em to F**k off. Or hang up. Or just put the phone down & let 'em talk to the desk!

i would tell them the head of accounts (or whatever) department deals with anything like this: tell them she/he doesn't take calls herself but she'd be happy to receive a letter outlining their services in writing. They'll soon lose interest.

i used to get them a lot at my last job. i was listed as the manager so they would always call asking for me. the store i worked at was nearly going under i just was honest with them eventually and it wasn't rude and it worked. i would say look mam or sir, to be perfectly honest with u these people can hardly afford to pay me. business is about bankrupt. u say the b word they pretty much hang up on u.

"Many apologies, but it is company policy to reject all cold-callers, thankyou ... click".

Lol @ flamingo .... grand idea.

Tell them you don't deal with systems - either say that head office deal with it or that you're in fully serviced offices and don't have any say in purchasing. You'll drop off their phone lists pretty quickly Hx

Put them on hold - forever !

Tell them about your sister. It works very well.

"My sister is a senior VP at xyz company and we use them. I'll be glad to consider your offer if you can arrange for an equivalent position for my sister at your firm."

I use this at home and at work. Never fails.

According to the Laws governing cold calling. if you are asked what the company is or what you are selling ar who you are you MUST tell the person asking.
Try repeating these questions over and over and over again.

Really winds them up and eventually they stop.
It's quite good fun just listening to their frustration.

A very loud whistle blown down the phone line usually does the trick.

what I do is--- say "Oh!, hold on a minute I've got something on the gas",or ,"hold on there is somebody at the door", let the phone dangle, or just lay it down(don't replace it on the hook),after all they are paying for the call and they should get the message.
