How do you go about thinking of an original brand name for a product?

Start off by thinking of who the product is meant to appeal to, what the product does for them, and then the mindset of that audience.

The name of the product might reflect what it does for those who will use it and why it might make their lives better/simpler etc.

Generally, the more tangibly useful the product (eg cleaning product) the more likely the name is to be intangible (areil, bold, persil, colgate); the less tangibly useful the product (banking, insurance etc) the less abstract the brand name (IF, smile, egg).
