Is it an advantage or disadvantage to tell people the reserve on an item thats for sale on ebay?

Advantage to both parties, you know what you want to get for the item and I know what I want to spend. So if you set the reserve price I can either try for it or say nope not interested.

Disadvantage- you would never show your poker hand before it is complete....

It鈥檚 a disadvantage to the seller. You鈥檙e giving away your minimum price.

I鈥檓 a last minute bidder anyway so I鈥檇 just go and bid exactly the reserve in the last few minutes if I knew it.

Advantage (many sellers list the amount in their auction). If anyone asks, tell them.

The potential bidder can't win unless they bid and beat your reserve. Wouldn't it be a shame if your reserve was $500 and they bid $495 and nobody else bid.... (The SCO doesn't work if only one person bids because the SCO price would then be the starting bid.)

As for them waiting until the end and bidding only the reserve, non issue. If only one person bids, even if they bid $600, they get it for the reserve of $500. If they bid just $500 and someone else bids $600, they higher bidder still gets it.
