Is there such a thing like a 15-minuter tv commercial???

A decade ago I used to work as a computer grafix artist at a few production firms, and did television work on the side, but the longest one I recalled doing in a video tape-based (SVHS) environment was no longer than 3 minutes! A friend of mine (who's connected with a local bank) was asking my opinion about doing 2 different tv commercials at 15-minutes total running time (TRT) plus some newspaper print ads stashed along, and on how much it would cost him? I don't know the present rates as I've no idea in today's production prices (but I do believe that such a project would cost a lot, just by the sound of it). Plus, he's looking for an artist who can do both print, animation & video by himself (including the copy, materials, & phasing as said person's responsibility). I would have volunteered to try a few parts of it, like the print side (copy, a catchy phrase and pre-press preparations), but then I don't own any usable the equipment at hand, nor even afford it. Any ideas? Help!

Overall, who would be willing to sit transfixed in front of the tube, watching a commercial running 15 minutes long? Without any raw video materials to include in and make it purely animated (flying logos, scrolling words, the works)? He want it priced dirt cheap too. What should I do with my friend?

There is no such a thing as 15-minute TV commercial, no company will spend money so stupid like that. TV spot is too expensive. Plus 15-minute commercial is not effective, the audience will get tired and tune out. Companies rather spend money wisely and show their ads in 30 seconds in different time slots, so more people will see it.

Unless you are talking about
1. infomercial, then yeah, infomercial is long. They show you how to use their powerful vacuum or pasta machine. There is often a how-to demo to sell the products.

2. They make a show advertising their product. It runs like a normal show but it's actually an advertisement. I have seen car companies making a show about their cars' history and present and future. It's like a real TV show but they are actually just trying to sell you cars.

3. It's a 15 minute video playing on a TV monitor in a trade show. That's not really a TV commercial then.

Don't get too excited about the project and run out to buy equipment. First you need to ask more details to make sure the projects are possible and your friend even knows what he is doing. A lot of entrepreneurs always throw ideas and ask around, but sometimes their ideas are too far fetched and won't not happen.

To find out pricing on today's market is actually not that hard. You can call companies which do such work to give you an estimate. Pretend that you are a company and you have a project. Call a few companies then you will get the idea of the price range. You can also check job boards to see how much they pay people per hour to do such work.

In terms of equipment, if you can't borrow from your friends, then you can only invest. There is no place you can use computer for free. Computer rental is often too expensive, you might as well get one. You have to estimate how much you will earn from that project, is it worth buying new equipment? Or you won't make any money after the overhead, then you can't take the project.

no broadcaster would send it! all viewers would change the channel! or it is a steady commercial program

sorry, no more ideas.
