My supermarket claims to be open 24 hours?

... but only the petrol station is open 24 hours. Do you think this is a con?

(I went there at 7 a.m. to discover it dodn't open until 8 - even though there was a huge sign saying 24 hours).

It may well be a legal con, but it would much fairer to state Petrol Station open 24 hours. Unfortunately not all in this life is fair and never will be.

Yes, but a legal con.. they are not lying, just playing on words, all companies do this... or maybe you just misunderstood what they meant...

It all depends on what day you went. Stores are only allowed to open for a total of six hours on a sunday - and most will be open between 10 and 4 on Sundays. They could - in theory- open at 1 minute past midnight on Monday morning but obviously it would hardly be worth their while so most will open for business at 9 on monday morning

Was this yesterday (i.e Monday)? Ours also claim 24 hour opening, but they shut Saturday night, open Sunday morning and shut again Sunday afternoon, reopening on Monday morning; it's to do with the Sunday trading laws that they can't exceed a certain number of hours on Sunday.

I suppose they'd say, perhaps accurately, that they don't claim 24 hour opening 7 DAYS A WEEK.

I believe that it has something to do with the Sunday trading laws... My local Asda opens at 8am on Monday and closes at 10pm Saturday and is advertised as 24 hours.

it still is open 24 hours because they have a little shop where you can buy milk and the essential stuff you might, asda is open 24 hours a day i have been in at 1:30 in the morning sometimes

One big con.

You'll probably find it's open 24 hours from about 7 or 8 am on Monday to about 9 or 10 pm on Saturday.
It can't be open 24/7 due to Sunday trading laws.
