If you are talking about the price of a stock in the stock market it is all about the story. The better the story the more it will play. The more buzz the higher the stock price. Now the buzz is about energy and companies that promise new technology that will power the planet will get the investments.

Bad PR has a bad effect. Discovering your product can cause cancer is likely to have a bad effect. So is a rumor that you are using lead paint.
