I'm writing a press release for a new business. It is my biz, can i write a good release without using my name


I don't like coming up on search engines, any help on how to word it so i don't need to use my name.

It would be best not to use your name. If you are writing the release it will seem less credible. Depending on the business type, there is no reason to use your name. You should focus on the business, it's services and benefits, location, contact info..etc.

Its probably not possible to not have your name on your article because it was you who found the information, because then they can blame you if you trash talk about them. Or you could just have a pen name like Dr. Suess and make up a name.

I don't like my name out there either. Do what authors do and create a name for yourself to use on your press releases. I don't remember what the term is called. I think its a Ghost Writer or something like that.

A press release is expected to come from a business Owner, CEO, President or other upper management personnel. There's nothing wrong with using your name.

Use your company name only. Branding is what it is called and this is very important to a business. An example is Yahoo or: http://website.ws/millionairen2

You need a contact information with your press release.

Afterall, one goal of the press release is to help your business get noticed by the media -- and journalists and writers who are always pressed for time will not bother to dig through your contact us page just to find someone to contact in your organization. If the complete contact information is right there in the press release, then it will make their jobs easier and can increase your chance of getting any media attention.

Plus, if you are using the paid press release distribution services such as PR Newswire, they will not distribute your press release without a contact information. They call the phone numbers given and talk to the contact person before sending out a release.

If you don't want your name, your options are:

- get another person to be used as a contact information
- send your press release to one of the free services that dont check veracity of contact information
- don't send a press release

Two of the biggest principles of the Public Relations Society of America Code of Ethics are honesty and avoiding conflicts of interest. In other words - you may not WANT to use your name, but it's the best thing to do in order to gain customer trust. Putting your name on the press release is not only honest disclosure of where this is coming from, but it shows that you're willing to put your name on your business. In the long run, it's the best business practice.

Now, granted, you may not be a member of the PRSA, but trust me, they know what they're talking about. And as both a journalist and a student of public relations - you want to use your name. Sending out a press release without a name screams conflict of interest.
