Do you think the ________ for dummies books would of sold more copies if the word dummy was not in the title?

Every time I see one of these books, I wonder this for some odd reason. You know, the yellow paper back books. Puppies for Dummies, Book keeping for Dummies, Salt water fish for dummies, etc etc. They have about every book for dummies. So if from the very start, if they would of left the word dummies out of the title, would they have sold more or less? why? A better question is why am I wondering about this at 1:30 in the morning ; )

No, it's a marketing gimmick. People buy those books because they know- no matter what the title is- they are good books. Besides, the "Dummy" books aren't having any problems being sold. The "For Dummies" says that anyone can do it and reassures people, believe it or not.

You're absolutely right, it's part of their marketing strategy. The "dummies" in the title makes the "how to" seem so simple, but then when you actually get around to reading the book, it ain't for dummies.

To answer your last question, at 1:30 in the morning, you're probably in bed trying to get some sleep and that's the time your brain is trying to wrap up the day, going through the things that happened, the things that you haven't done/ answers that haven't been answered, (which is why a lot of people don't remember about something they forgot till they're in bed) and try to make a little note to yourself that you need to do this and that the next day or find the answer to this or that... :)
