Can an attorney put a lien on a truck owned by new husband and myself from x husbands debt 5 years old?

This is for a Vet bill for 1500.00, now it is 2800.00 from interest.

If your ex filed bankruptcy and you signed paperwork at the vets, you would be liable for the bill. I know, it bites, I am in the same situation with my ex and the house that he has I haven't lived in for over 11 years.

If the attorney has a judgment from the Court, he could attach to your property or garnish your wages, but don't see how he could attach to joint property, and certainly not your new husband's property owned soley by him.

If the attorney does not have a judgment and with the debt being so old, I would ask for the attorney to submit proof that you signed the papers at the vets office...if they can't produce them it may be harder for them to get a judgment and you might be able to work out a settlement agreement to pay a percentage of the debt in a lump sum to make it go away.

Know this is not what you are going to want to hear, but it would be best to talk to a lawyer as laws vary by the state you live in.

He probably can. Its quite simple (unfortunately) to put a lien on someones property. All thats needed is a few forms. I'd get yourself an attorney.

If you are on the vet bill or he is on the truck then yes they can take your stuff. If not - get a lawyer and fight back!

You don't stand a chance. As soon as you tied the not with your new hubby he became involved. I got burned by the government for my wife's ex husbands unpaid income taxes all the way up to the date of their divorce.

yes he can , in the state of fl. it is a no state fault. you guys are responsible for the the property that he obtained via marriage no matter. Unless you have a wonderful lawyer!!!

Maybe, a lien can be put on collateral if the debtees name is still on the title. The best thing to do is pay the bill he owes it so just pay your bills.
