Surviving in Manhattan!!? Good Job!?

When I graduate HS I want to move to NYC..and prbly attend NYU. Is it an easy school to get into? I prbly will major in law or business. What kind of jobs are there in Manhattan based on what I'd like to do?? Business? Law? I really want to live in Manhattan. thats my only dream! Please and thanks! I visited there a few months ago and fell in love with the city!

Hi, I'm at NYU now. NYU has been getting harder to get into every year just because there has been so much hype (i.e. being voted dream school by HS students). I didn't have the best SAT scores (1380; 31 or 32 on ACT), but it's important to them that you are well-rounded (extracurriculars, music, community involvement, leadership, work experience). I think one of the biggest things when the accepted me and gave me a 25,000/year scholarship was my admissions essay. Being a liberal arts college (NYU's College of Arts and Sciences), they love to see students who are unique.

As for business and law, you can apply to NYU's business school Stern, which is even harder to get into. Most of its students look corporate even when just attending class. From what I hear, it's extremely intense, but has a really great turnout/big firm employment rate for graduates. I'm a pre-law student, although it is not an official major. They offer a pre-law program through the politics department; a Law & Society minor; and a newly created International Relations major.

NYU's law school is one of the hardest in the nation to get into, and only a handful of NYU undergraduates are selected, so going to NYU for undergrad is not a guarantee to get into the law school later.

There are tons of jobs available in Manhattan, and NYU offers on-campus jobs with pay rates that range from 8 to 13 dollars an hour for undergraduate students. Many also act as babysitters, petsitters, interns, etc. Several of my friends are employed at places where they earn around 20 per hour.

Born and raised in NY and still in NY. NYU is not an easy school to get into. Very difficult. In fact, they are the arch rival of Pace University (school I graduated from.) You need a killer grade point average, recommendations, personal statement, and more importantly to them SAT scores. It is very expensive to live in manhattan and most students who live off campus have any where between 3 to 4 roommates. Many also live in the dorms. NYU does not have a law major. They have a law school, but not a law major in their undergrad division. Unless, this has changed. Insofar as jobs, the economy is very bad and if you haven't heard NYC has gotten hit with a number a lay-off's in the financial sector, but it will be effecting other areas. NYU does have jobs within the school for students which you have to interview for just as you would at any regular interview. Of course, there is also the regular jobs at starbucks, clothing stores, etc....
