How safe is working in the Lindgren Section of Miami, FL?

My son is considering teaching at a charter school in the Lindgren section of Miami, Florida. The actual address is 14615 SW 183rd Terrace. I'm looking for information about the area so he can make an informed decision. He currently lives in CT and is looking forward to a warmer climate. Other questions are what areas he should be looking for apartments?

I don't know much about the school itself. However that part of Miami is close to the University of Miami and the Metro zoo there is also the Sunset stip area that has lots of shopping and nice places to eat.
My friends that went to UM mostly stayed in the Kendall and Coral Gables, which is close by and nice places to live.
When I first moved here, I used a "rent-free" agent that drove me around to different rental communities. The service is free to you plus you get a good feel for the neighborhoods and also you get to see places that you may not know of since the info is usally given to these agents.
