If you get your resume together and look the right way. I have seen a lot of resumes from college grads that say that they want a challenging job with personal growth. No employer wants to see that, it shows the person had no idea what he or she wants to do-it goes in the garbage. The other one is paragraphs about how they are team players. The employer got 100 with the same wording yesterday. Into the garbage. Better is To obtain a position as a sales trainee where I can use my strong interpersonal skills. That resume gets kicked over to the sales dept. I saw one resume that said his hobby was skydiving and then he wondered why the mortgage companies never called him.
Only 10% of all jobs are advertised. Advertising costs money and hopefully a position will be filled before they have to run an ad. 70% of all jobs are filled because someone knows someone. You have to tell everyone you know including your mother's cousin that you are looking for work. Get out the yellow pages and look up companies in your field, call and ask if you can fax your resume over and to who's attention. Fax it over and if you don't get a call back in a week, call the person you faxed it over to. Don't forget there are state, federal adn local civil service jobs, too.
