Applying for a job as a sales assistant - what things should I put in my CV?

This is the first time I'm applying for a job, it requires a CV but I'm not sure if I've done it right. So far it's 1 and a 1/4 pages long and I've written: personal details, education, qualifications, languages, work experience, hobbies and personal qualities.

I've never had a job before (I'm 17).... what do I have to put down to make a good impression. I don't want it to be lengthy, should I write why I want the job and why I think I'd be a valued member to the shop???

no no no, dont put on your cv why you want the job! all your cv should have, is your work experience, a bit about the type of person you are, and about your school. thats it zip! and your cv should be no more then 2pages long, and make sure its not in a plastic sleave, if it takes someone more then 10seconds to get too, then they wont bother reading them....i did cv course so this is how i know

It would be OK to put anything that you have done outside of your education, and computer skills.

Things like why you want the job or your valor related to the job are not to be mentioned in the CV but in a letter written by hand.
If they didn't ask for such a letter then you simply not mention it.
At the interview you'll have the opportunity to make a good impression. First question would be "So, ms X tell us why do you want this job?" or "Why do you want to work at our company?"

to be a good sales person i would have thought you need to
have good skills getting on with people. if you have this abilty you are half way there, with years of experance allready .

It would be a good idea to say why you think you'd be good for the job at interview.
CV length is not that important it's the quality of whats in it. Keep it interesting, writing your achievments and examples of where you made a difference to someone or something. Also, when you have work experience, avoid writing a long list of what your duties were and again write your achievments and / or when you made an improvement to the business.

being able to mix with people is very important, good manners, and being flexible to work at different times, even if it means missing time out with your friends.
just be yourself,but be honest.
good luck

After your name and address on the first page, add a small paragraph giving an overview of your plans and aspirations, and why you want the job. This is very important in that it gives the employer an instant impression of your worth.
Emphasise in your CV all the positive points of your experience, and provide a small paragraph describing how your strengths will suit the job now, and as you rise up the ladder.
The fact that you consider working with people to serve the public as an exciting prospect, has got to come over as a strong point. The office exec position will come later with experience. Say that you would be keen to go on a retail services course.
Before you have that interview, find out about the firms history and structure, so that you're the one that stands out from the 'other candidates'. Good Luck!

They might want to know you're well presented, friendly, helpful, flexible, confident.
