Interview at Nordstroms for Women's Shoe Department - what to expect?

I was wondering if anyone has experience interviewing at Nordstroms. I have an interview coming up and was wondering how I should dress, what to expect on the interview and what I can expect when I am doing the job. Is it like JC Penney's where I just get shoes for people or do I actually have to help them try them on.

I've worked at Nordstroms and at Penneys and found the "culture" of both places to be quite different. The crowd at Nordstroms was more formal and more "nose in the air"; I really had more fun at JC Penney's, to be honest. Penney's was always a ral "hoot" during Christmas season. Plus, I think Nordstroms may be commission based in some of their departments. I worked in their restaurant, so I'm not sure about the sales floor.

What to wear? Go PROFESSIONAL for Nordstrom's. I guess you can't really OVER dress for an interview (you might want to leave the tiara at home, though...). A nice suit with a skirt or dress is always correct for an interview. You will be representing the store and Nordstroms, in particular, is very image conscious. I was in Nordstroms tonight, just walking through, and noticed that all of their sales people were wearing very smart clothes. The men all wore suits and neckties and the ladies were wearing fashionable coordinates; NO jeans, except on the customers! The staff is definitely better dressed than their clientele. LOL.

What to expect during the interview? They will be looking for people who don't have a problem with working on nights or weekends, especially during the Christmas season. In fact, it may be a requirement for the job. Make sure that you LISTEN to everything that is said to you, be cheerful and don't interrupt. Be enthusiastic about their store and their products. Have a "CAN DO" attitude.

Be prepared to assist people with trying on the shoes. Yeah, I know...yuck. You'll probably be trained in how to "fit" people with the proper size. Lord knows, Nordstrom's charges enough for their footwear so the customer ought to expect a good fit for the money they are spending. Nordstroms pride themselves on excellent customer service, so that'll mean kneeling down and slipping the shoe onto the customer's foot.
Or at least being prepared to do that.

I have worked in the shoe department at J.C. Penneys, and we ALWAYS helped the people put their shoes on. Which is why I transferred out after a week..couldn't take those stinky feet!

Hope this helps you. Good luck, whatever department you go for.

You know, service is service, its up to you if you want to exell in what you do, and I'm sure you know what to do. =)

They'll be looking at your experience, if any, in shoes, but also they'll be checking out your personal style (do you represent Nordstrom's overall "look") and they will want to know about your customer service. They want someone very customer orientated, but also able to multi task when it gets busy. And yes, you'll have to help customers choose shoes to wear for events, etc. GOOD LUCK!!

I work for Macys and they have a strict dress code of professional black attire. Usually to figure out what to wear, I think of the people I admire and respect in life and mimic their fashion choices. The major three questions you should have an answer for are: 1: Why do I want to work here?, 2: What in my past work experience makes me qualified to work here and 3:Is it worth the pay?
Most shoe stores you just fetch the size and set them in front of the customer. No touching involved. Good luck!

Dress for success wear a must a hot pair of shoes or boots and suit if possible, smile a lot and thank them with a double handshake both hands, let them know that you really llike people and are willing to help a person and you love sales sales and more sales tell them you can sale the horns off a billy goat and you are wanting to strive to the top. You will have to smell feet at times, some people are a little more courteous and some are not make sure and offer them a stocking before they try a shoe on tell them it is for their protection and be honest with them if it looks good hey ok if not suggest something else, but never tell them it is not them
