What should I say to quit my job? |
I started this job 7 weeks ago. My boss is an old lawyer. Every time I made a small mistake, he would make a great fuss. Also, the job is very stressful for me. I am the only one working for my boss. Other than providing legal consultation, I am doing everything else for him. Every time work is piling up, I had difficulty sleeping at night. One time, I almost got sick. I feel that I have a lot of responsibilities because my boss doesn't know how to use a computer. He doesn't know how to type either. If I am absent for one day, he can't produce any legal documents. Today, he said that I always made mistakes but I disagree. I haven't made a lot of mistakes. I can't take his criticism and the stress any more. Should I just tell him that or should I make up an excuse to quit? How many days of notice should I give? We are working on a complicated and big case now and he may not let me go. He had hired 4 people before me and they all quited after working less than 2 months. I would suggest typing up your resignation letter and keeping it short and simple 'To whom it may concern, please consider this my two weeks notice, effective today. My last day will be xx/xx/xxxx. Sincerely, (NAME)' and sign it. Let him read it in front of you, then he'll probably ask you why and try to get you to stay and work for him. I would suggest when he starts questioning you just be honest and cordial. You don't want to burn bridges. He can't force you to stay. He can try to talk you into it, but he cannot force you to come to work if you resign. Two to three weeks should be plenty of time for him to find a replacement. You can also suggest to him that you can stick around and help train the new hire before you leave (which may result in you being employed there longer) but make sure that you have written notice of your specific last day, that way it's not like he didn't know. Just be polite cordial and helpful in any manner, and hopefully he'll find a replacement quick and you can move on from this job. (It sounds horrible). I had a similar problem with my boss. I think the best way for you to deal with this is for you to explain that the job isn't the right fit for you. Don't pin it on your boss, and don't turn it into a pity party either.. I'd say maybe just say that it isn't working out well for you, and you think it'd be better for both of you if you found a job elsewhere. 2 weeks notice is what you should give to keep it proper. You don't need an excuse but if you do tell him the truth-working for him is to stressful.I think if he can't keep his help, he's probably already heard this a few times. 2-3 weeks notice Honestly i would just say "i quit" |
