Is it legal for your employer to take money out of your check if you did not do you job correctly?

My boss pulled $350 from my last paycheck for "Car Repair" I did sign a paper allowing pay removal for monies owed.Is this legal?

I am a transmission rebuilder, any mistakes done while employed with him cost me nothing, however, this charge was on my final paycheck.Nor have any employees still employed there are charged for mistakes/accidents.

regardless of what you signed this practice is illegal in Pennsylvania this is from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry

What Can Be Deducted From My Paycheck?

If you have borrowed money from a third party, you can give the employer written permission to deduct payments from your earnings. If your employer has loaned you funds, it can deduct the amount from your earnings as long as you have given written authorization. Of course, normal tax deductions must be made. You must give written authorization to your employer to make such non-tax related deductions. It is not valid to sign a "blanket" authorization at the time of hire to cover any future deductions. Further, as a rule, deductions cannot reduce your gross pay below minimum wage, and the deductions must be for the employee's benefit.

contact the Department of Labor & Industry and file a wage dispute immediately.

Need to know what kind of job you did. If you were a tow truck driver and damaged another vehicle for hooking it up wrong then you are responsible. You signed allowing him to remove money from your paycheck, need to know if the paper is legal, and what was the car repair. Was it for your personal car or was it through the business

He may have you there. You did sign that paper.
However, you should be paid for your work.
He should have incident money set aside for these occasions, not taking his employees' hard earned money.
I'd talk to an attorney!

Sure, if you open an account with a financial institution and mutually agree that if both parties are not completely satisfied with the penalties collections will precede.

It depends on what your job is and what state do you live in?.The biggest issue here isn't whether or not you signed the paper, but whether your employer was even allowed to ask you to sign the paper. Employers have been know to do things not allowed by law simply because they usually get away with it.

You signed a paper allowing him to take the money out ... call an attorney to be sure .. but I think you lose.
