Cheif medical examiner?

I was wondering if they did autopsies?Because I was thinking about someday becoming a forensic autopsist with at least $100,000 a year.

In the US; the ME is a medical doctor; and yes, does autopsies and oversees the lab and evidence. The coroner is an elected position and depending on the state and county may or not be an MD. They investigate (coroner's inquest).
To be an ME you need 4 years of medical school, many years of residency and then specialty classes and training in forensics...at least 12 plus years. To be the chief, you would need seniority and administration duties if the department had more than one ME. If the dept had only one ME--you would be chief of one.
