Im a felon, hard to get a job. ive been struggling sence i was a teenager. how can i get help to a good job?

i was in trouble as a youngster. just try to make it. dads been in prison hole life. so now im tryan to change my familys ways and work but i cant get a good paying job worth being proud of. i need help

A lot depends on where the crime occurred. In a lot of states, you can get your felony expunged after completing your sentence. However in some states (like Texas), you can't get your record expunged and so you likely will be screwed if you want a good job. If it turns out that you can't get your record expunged, look into leaving the country--I think Canada takes you after 10 years and most countries are much more forgiving when it comes to crime than the US and you will be able to find a job more easily.

Do you have enough money to go to college? College can really help to get a good job.

Consider your "felony" as just another type of disability. You can find a good decent career.

Try contacting employment agencies. Ask for jobs where the hiring is for a limited period of time. Try a number of these type of positions until you find a business you like and where they like you. This may overcome the obstacle of hiring an unknown felon.

Always be honest and straightforward about your conviction and
always mention your rehabilitation and post-conviction record.

Good Luck

It's hard coming up from the bottom, man. Ya gotta have heart and not give up. That's number 1.

What are your skills? Are you good with cars? Plumbing? Electronics, Computer repair, Air Conditioning, Cooking? Any of those interest you? Go to a trade school and learn a good marketable skill...make sure you like it, so you won't burn out. You may have to work labor jobs to support yourself, but persevere. DON'T GIVE UP.

Another idea: Maybe you're a good salesman. Do people naturally trust you? (Just because you're an ex-con doesn't mean nobody will ever trust you, you just may have to work harder to earn it at first, but you can do it. Get a good honest reputation...it'll pay in the long run.) Good salesmen (with a good product to sell, of course) can make a good living.

But don't just get into a low-pay labor job and stay there. Learn a trade or a skill...then you'll have a future.

look in to college, you may be able to get finical aid

What do you enjoy working at? What are your best qualities and skills that some employer could use? What skill is your best ? Try to get at least a high school diploma and see if a trade school could help.
