Working two weeks straight ithout a break - legal? |
In NZ, can an employee agree to work a seventh day, then continue working his next week, and be asked by the boss again to work a seventh day? To date, my partner will have worked 15 days in succession without a break. It is very legal. Sorry. I have gone a couple monthes at a time without a scheduled day off, though I earned overtime. your partner CAN say no. Depending on your partners age, if older than a 17 it is very legal. But, I recommend telling your employer you need a day off. Depending on the company, your partner will be eligible for overtime after 40 hours worked during the week or 8 hours in the day. see unemployment office asap... Employee's can work as much as their employer allows them to. Where a problem would exist is if they were working long hours without rest periods, which would create a health and safety issue. Many firefighters work 24 and 36 hour shifts without rest but are then mandated to take time off to sleep. So, in answer to your question, an employee can agree to work each and every day of the year if they so choose. It is completely legal Just say NO. |
