Good gift for English lawyer?

I have a friend who is starting law school this fall. She is interested mostly in international law. I would like to get her a good reference text or anything really for Christmas that will be useful to her. Any ideas?

Keep in mind she is studying in England and thus books on American cases might not do her too well.

Thanks to the first person to answer, but I guess I was unclear. She's from England. I know her from when *I* was there. So stuff on traveling in England will probably make her roll her eyes at me.

There is a book store in London called Waterstones, they sell lots of Law books, in all areas. Look it up on the web and order a book for her, one which will be of very good use in her studies.

For law, no... I can't suggest a darned thing. I'd assume that her profs will assign textbooks that will be appropriate.

But - being English, I could recommend the book that many of us use when we're exploring our own country. If she's going to want to go explore, a really good gift would be the best guide to the UK that I know of. The AA (British equivalent of the AAA) has a phenomenal book called "Treasures of Britain", which is produced in collaboration with the National Trust. It's a combination guidebook/encyclopedia, and book of maps. It's fairly expensive, but it's not up to me to judge what you can/want to spend. It's a truly fabulous book, and would allow your friend to explore what she wants to in the UK. My family has used it as a go-to resource for decades. To the best of my knowledge, it has no equal.

Wish her luck for me! I hope she has fun over there... and hopefully, you'll get a chance to visit! If you do, visit my part of the country (Dorset coast). You can go to Stonehenge (yawn!), but the real jewels are the coastline and small villages. Thomas Hardy country... beautiful! And the pubs don't suck!

All the best to you and her!
