HELP interview with a top law firm in nyc... interview question? |
Next week I have a job interview at a top lawfirm in midtown Manhattan. I will be interviewing for a legal secratery position for one of the partners in the firm. I will be making 67k a year if I land the job. I hate interviews and I was wondering if anybody has any tips for me to help me get the job & not look so nervous. Also I was wondering if anybody can help me appearance wise... should I straighten my hair and wear it down or back in a straightened ponytail (Im not sure if it makes you look more professional when you wear your hair a certain way). And as far as a suit goes does it matter if its a really expensive one or can I go to mandees or a store like that and buy one? (Im kinda broke because of Christmas but I will buy an expensive one if it will help me get the job) Thank you so much for your help! I am 22 years old and I've been working as a legal secretary for 3 years now. My boss is about to retire thats why I am looking for another job. But the office I am currently working for is very small (my boss and one other secretary besides myself) so it will be a big change going from a small practice to a large one with much better pay. Check your library for this book: wear a pony tell it looks good and says you dont spend to much time on your self like most women as far as suit goes you cant tell weather or not it is expensive ynless you see a name on it or are a fashion buff but usealy a nice dress suit and dont think to much about it rember your body language says alot about you in an interview and especialy with people in law and in power they will be able to read you like a book so sit strait and allways keep your head up with hands folded in lap no hand talking I think you should spend the extra bucks to make a positive statement about yourself. Purchase a nice suit. Choose the hair style that you are comfortable and would fit into the new office. In doubt be conservative. Ponytails are great and acceptable but maybe after you get the job. The key is let your appearance give you the extra confidence that you think you need, Good Luck! Wear your hair down and straight. Wear a suit that looks nice, doesn't have to be really expensive. Just dress professional. Not too much make-up, just a nice fresh clean look, no flashy jewlery, and wear your hair pretty simple. No big do's. Like others said, be confifent, answer quickly, and dont fidget too much, it's true, they can read you like a book. Comments from the other side of the desk -- maybe this info will help. I own the law firm and I look for someone who can make my life just a little less chaotic and handle the little things that keep me from doing what I love, lawyering. |
