I have an MBA in HR but cannot break into the field. Any suggestions?

I have been employed as a legal assistant for the past seven years and decided to get an MBA as a way of advancing my career. So far, I have not been able to obtain an entry level HR position. Because I am not currently in school, I cannot get an internship or even into a management trainee position. I have tried to volunteer and no one seems to be able to help. I would really like to utilize my MBA at some point in my career. Ideally, I would like to stay in the legal industry but I am willing to move into another industry all together.

Get involved in your local SHRM Chapter. Go to shrm.com and you will get information.

Network, Network, Network. This is an excellent place to meet H.R. Professionals.

Just keep looking... get your resume out there. Something will come along, be patient. Since you are already employed, you can afford to wait.

H.R. people are highly sought after right now. The fact that you do not have experience is a hinderance and will cause you to get a lower paying position though. What you need to do is show your strengths on your resume. That being the employment law and regulations. If you lean on that you should have some people knocking.
