What major does paralegal studies fall under?

What major does paralegal studies fall under? I am a student at a community college which has paralegal studies but I need to transfer in a year so I have to find schools that offer the major. When I look at the catalogs of other schools though I do not see Paralegal studies on there so what would I have to major in, in order to be a paralegal?

I am in school for an associates in applied business-Paralegal. I attend the Academy of Court Reporting in Cleveland Ohio. When you transfer you should be able to transfer into a business major. You can transfer into almost anything and most of your class should transfer. Im transfering to Akron next year and majoring in Theater and most only a few of my classes don't transfer.

Pre-law. Paralegal is not so much a academic discipline but a vocational training program. It is similar to majoring in Pre-law which prepares you for law school.

My associates degree in paralegal studies falls under applied science. Are you studying at the community college for your associates? Or are you just taking some classes? What I recommend is to contact an admissions representative at the college your are considering transferring to and set an appointment to meet with them and figure out what your credits will transfer as. Most universities do not offer an AA or BA in paralegal studies. Check out the American Bar Association's website to find places that have accredited paralegal programs in your area. You only want to go to an accredited place. Their website is: http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/para...

There are two ways to become a paralegal, work experiennce and/or paralegal degree. Even with a degree, it is very hard to find work without any experience. I recommend, and this is what I did, find a job at a law office now as a legal secretary, clerk, etc... to gain law office experience while you go to school. This way when you graduate you will have your paralegal degree and law office experience, this will put you ahead of the pack. If you do find employment at a law office while you are going to school, talk to them about the possibility of promotion to paralegal after you graduate.

If you still want to go to a university that does not have a paralegal program, major in pre law, english, or political science. Those are the most common majors for pre law students so I suppose those would be the ones to consider.

Best of luck to you! Contact me if you have any more questions.
