Is it proper to go back to the same company for work after resigning on a good note.?

Hey I resigned my job from my employer some 4 months back, for better prospects. Now I feel that I did a mistake and want to go back, is it a good idea.

Amisha

Uh oh.

If I was a manager at that company, I wouldn't be too pleased if someone left my team because I wasn't good enough for them.

Personally, I quit a job in May, because the employer wasn't up to my standard. I'm still out of work. But I wouldn't think about trying to go back there, because they STILL aren't up to my standards.

You left your last job because you thought your could do better and now you are coming back and they will know you couldn't do better. Is that it? I think if you are honest with the old company, they will probably take you back, but you may have to take a cut in pay. Good luck.

Ever hear of the saying, "you can't go home again".

The meaning of this is that once we leave, the human brain tends to gloss over bad things and over emphasize the good things. This is what is happening to you.

Here is a reality about going back to a former job.

1. Everything you hated about your job is still there. Eventually you will feel just as awful about the situation as you did before you left.

2. Employees that prove their disloyalty, by leaving, are NEVER considered full employees again. They may hire you back but you need to know that odds are good you will never be considered for promotion, and if downsizing occurs, you will be one of the first to go.

3. The only way I would consider returning to a former employer would be if they contacted me and needed me back. Even then I would question the motives because I know I would not be viewed as a valuable employee.

Odds are you are just going through an adjustment period and that you have the grass is always greener syndrome.

My advice would be to pour yourself into your current job and try to make it there.

Whatever you do, good luck to you.

It depends on your employer, but you certainly have a chance if you were genuinely a good performer and left on good terms.

Most companies that I have worked for have taken back good employees. I've even done it myself. Good people are hard to find, so it doesn't make sense to turn them away needlessly. Also, it looks good to other employees when people leave and then return because it shows that the company really is a good place to work.

Give it a try. You have nothing to lose.

There's nothing improper about it if they are willing to take you back.

Your former employer might be glad to have you back, or might consider you disloyal for leaving - depends on the person, so no way anyone here can tell.

You will surely loose your respect.
