I am interested in becoming a notary public. What do I need to do?

You can actually do it online. (At least in Florida you can). I know this because I was going to do it at one time, had taken the test & everything. But then I changed jobs and didn't need it anymore and I never sent the money to get my stamp.

You'll need to apply, pay a fee, and take an oath in all the areas, but training varies.

Be aware that you cannot act as a notary for yourself and shouldn't provide the service to family members.

If you have another job, be sure to get approval to offer notary services at work. (Most employers are happy to have someone in the building who can act as a notary, unless it interferes with your regular duties. This is because it reduces the need for someone to leave work to go find one when they need one...and we all need one eventually.)
