I interviewed for a position that I really want...it's been 8 days and no word yet....?

I emailed them a thank you note after my interview and found all contact regardless of the outcome will come via email or phone. Is it o.k. to email them and see where theyare at on the decision process? If so, how do I ask without being a nuisance?

It depends a bit on how many people are being interviewed for the job. (You did ask that question during your interview, right?)

Assuming they are not interviewing hundreds of people, it's time for a follow up and the only way you are not going to be a nuisance <warm smile> is if you are one of their top candidates.

I would call the HR person or the hiring manager -- unless they specifically gave you a number to call -- and professionally but quickly ask about your status in the process. You should be able to judge by their reaction if you are still in the running.

If you get a positive reaction, use it to professionally and quickly emphasize your interest in the position.

If you get a negative reaction, see if you can get a short answer as to why.

Cheers.

(I should add that I am assuming this is a non-entry level professional position -- As a hiring manager 8 days is too long to keep someone on hold...to me it indicates a company that doesn't have a high level of concern for people in general)

They may have many more people to interview so give them more time. Honestly, there is no need to email or call them, they'll hire you if they really want to and if they are burdened with a lot of interviews any contact you make may be annoying to them.

The thank you note you sent them should be more than enough. Give them more time to get back to you, and good luck - I hope you get the job of your dreams!

continue to look for work.
decissions may take 2 -6 weeks especially this time of year.
