Should I list old underage drinking charge on job application?

I got charged with underage consumption in April of 2000 when I was 20 years old. I am now applying for a job that asks if you have ever been charged with a criminal offense. Should I answer yes or just leave it blank? I really want this job and it is for a big company and a job that is pretty competitive. I'm debating...what do you think? Other jobs I've had exclude misdemeanors when they ask this question. Which will hurt me more leaving it blank or putting it.

I would suggest for you to list it only if you were convicted of the crime. If you were charged, but not convicted, it means nothing.

Make sure to include when it was (in 2000... quite a while ago) and that you were 20 at the time. Almost everyone had at least a couple drinks when they were 20 years old, you just happened to get caught and the shaft. I really don't think that this is so bad.

If this potential employer happens to find out about this misdemeanor, you will definitely not get the job. But like I said, your offense really isn't that bad.

If it does not ask you to list then don't. If it does you have better or you'll be lying.

Background investigations are getting easier and easier to do because of the internet.
