Where can I open an IRA when I live in a foreign country? |
I live, work and pay taxes in Taiwan. I tried to open an IRA through USAA but they said that since my physical address is in Taiwan, I cannot open it through them! Yes, I am an American citizen. As long as you file income taxes in the United States and report enough earned income to cover your IRA contribution, you can open an IRA here. Americans can exclude up to $74,000 of foreign earned income when filing their U.S. return. If you opt to do that, you must have enough earned income remaining to cover your IRA contribution. you can't. |
