If I bought a 35 cent comic book in 1978, and it's worth $45.00 today, is that a good return?

Greetings,

Just for fun, I'm going through some of my old comic books, that I bought back in the late 1970s, when I was a kid. I'm looking up their current worth in the latest edition of the OverStreet Comic Book Price Guide.

I think it's kinda neat to know that a book I bought for 35 cents is "worth" $45.00 today. (Of course, I know that it's really only worth that much if I can sell it for that much!)

Question... if I HADN'T bought this $0.35 comic book, and instead put that money in a bank account, that earned interest every year, how much would be in the account now?

What's been the average rate of return over the past 30 years for money in a savings account?

Thanks in advance.

The comic books beats the bank interest, bond interest and even the average return on the stock market over the same period of time.

The value of the comic has grown about 18% a year over the 30 years.

However, collectibles are thinly traded and for every home run you hit, you are holding scores of worthless curios.

if i where you i would keep it a little longer because my brother has loads form long time ago

It depends on how old U R. Wait until ur a little bit older maybe ur early sixties. So retirment money can be easy to earn. The price should raise, but if it starts to declilne sell it immediatley.

you made out way better than if you put your 35 cents in the bank

Um its the material thing i think u should hold on to the comic

i agree with david...thats a lousy return
