What would a long term good stock investment be?

What would a long term good stock investment be?

A long term investment would be in any mutual fund that currently has a 4 or 5 star Morningstar rating.

Any ETF that invest in Energy, commodities or emerging countries.

Any top blue chip company.

Example of all these investments can be found on MSN Money which should be reviewed for anyone who is interested in investments, both novices & professional.

Oil

If you have a lump sum and are commited to holding the stock for as long as you can I would simply mirror the holdings of Berkshire Hathaway. If you have a smaller amount to invest and are buying monthly, buy mutual funds through a qualifed financial advisor. That is the best of both worlds for either scenario.

RAJESH EXPORT LTD.

RIO is good and i just put $100 in IMDS which is a company that has come up with a better way to do mammograms... which is great and they are using the machines now which is a step before the stock skyrockets! it is $.05 a share right now.

i am against mutual funds because you don't make enough to keep up with inflation long term.

To quote John Maynard Keynes (a famous dead economist), "in the long run we are all dead." There is almost no such thing as the long-term, because technology and markets are changing faster than they ever did before.

The "buy and hold" method of investing is dead. You have to continually review how a company is doing and weigh the future prospects for their products or service. Just because a company was a top-notch blue chip, does not mean it will continue to succeed. Just look at the former great companies that have struggled: GM, Ford, Kodak, Xerox.
Other high-growth companies of the recent past have also fizzled: Look at SunMicrosystems and some of the other tech companies. Remember America Online. Look what happened to Bear Stearns. Even Bershire Hathaway will face risk when Warren Buffet dies and is no longer running the company.

If I had to pick one company to thrive, it would be Goldman Sachs. Our economy is a finance-based economy and Goldman Sachs is the best investment firm of the bunch.
Don't bet on one company, but buy a basket in different industries including international companies.

" Long- term"...means try to anticipate the future... do you think the world can continue to survive on oil as the big energy source ? I'd guess not... soooooo a couple of good investments may be : PBW an ETF focused on "alternative energy"... or TAN a new " solar energy" ETF .
