Where can i trade stocks for free? does anyone do that?

Hey everyone, i know site like Zecco give you 10 free trades a month, and others give you the first month free if you have $2,000 in the account.

I was wondering, is there any way to trade for free? Do the people at wall street do it for free or do they pay for it some how? Thanks!

You can buy some stocks without paying commission, by dealing directly with the company. But I doubt they'll buy shares back.

In any case, the cost of online trading is low enough that in most cases, it is not a significant concern, unless you're day trading slow-moving stocks.

The direct purchase plans from companies do charge a fee when you buy. I used to do this but found it to be a waste because you could not just buy or sell when you wanted to. It is done end of day at closing price, and there is a fee. I think the other 2 posts are more accurate. Report It

I am not familiar with Zecco. I looked at their site and they seem to be ok. (FYI: Not recommending the site.) You can look them up on Finra.org to see how long they have been in business, address, etc, any compliance issues.

You should note that even "free trades" are not always free.

1. How does Zecco route orders? Do you have access to direct trades to multiple markets such as ARCA, INET, BRUT, NYSE for stocks and ICE, and the other 6 major exchanges for options? Typically these low cost and free trade firms make money on the spread (price between the bid and ask).

2. Are they a market maker in any of the stocks you may be trading? You may not always be getting the best price. Sure might be saving on commissions but you could be paying more on a buy, or getting less on a sell. Watch the "Level 2" screen to see if you are getting a fair price.

3. What is the time execution guarantee, if any? If a trade takes more than 1 or 2 seconds for a market order in a stock that has volume, the price action may move against you.

Good Luck!

Friend...Nobody really does anything for free...If you're not paying for it someone somewhere is. Suggest a low priced brokerage Interactive Brokers is the best I know of. GOOD LUCK!
