Foreign investors are buying up the United States? |
what do you say to this question? and Please sensible answers, thank you! Foreign investment in The U.S.A. is the best thing that could possibly happen. Americans are buying stock in foreign companies, and they're buying stock in ours. Now it matters to us what happens to their economy, and it matters to them what happens in ours. It used to be that the driving force in the world economy was the U.S.A., and other countries only worried about how much they could sell us, not how much they could buy from us. But the more of a stake that they have in our economy, the more concerned they will be about how much stuff our companies sell overseas, not just how much of their stuff they sell here. It used to be that we didn't really care what happened to the Asian economies, or the South American economies, or the Middle Eastern economies. So long as they didn't cause too much trouble, or interrupt our supply of oil, we didn't really care if they had to live on $10 a month. But our position as the world's slumlord is quickly and rightfully eroding. It used to be that we only cared about what happened in the Middle East if it drove up the price of gasoline. We didn't care what happened in Brazil unless it drove up the price of coffee. And we were downright giddy if the Russian or Chinese economies fell upon hard times. But we're living in a quickly evolving world economy. It matters what happens in India, and China, and Saudi Arabia, and Germany. We're not the only ones buying iPods and PC's and big screen TV's. It's a world economy. It is in everyone's interest that we each have a stake in each others futures. I want to own stock in China, and in fact I do. So now I care if the Chinese stock market drops 500 points, and they care if ours does. They feel it directly, not just because they won't be able to sell us as many, "Made in China" christmas ornaments, but because when we lose money, they lose money. It doesn't matter to me here in Mid-western America, if the guy heading the corporation is named Chang or Ken Lay, what matters is how well he runs the company. What would matter to me more is if foreigners didn't want to own American companies. If they want to own American companies it is because they have confidence in our economy, something a lot of Americans don't even have. People always have a way of worrying about the next doomsday scenario that is going to end life as we know it. Oh woe is me, the end is near. The American economy is based upon the fact that we are the most productive people in the world. Worry about how well you are educating your children. That will do far more to determine the future of America than foreign ownership of our companies. If our country falls into turmoil, it will be because we failed to prepare our children. We will fail through sloth, not through greed. It is not what we owned that made us great, it is what we are as a people. If we fail it will be because we do it to ourselves, not because we sold our companies, but because we sold out our principles. Welcome to the world economy, we can't ignore the rest of the world anymore. Congratulations, the world is on the verge of freedom, they can no longer be dismissed as simply the poor and forgotten. They are our equals. Do not fear the future, embrace it, after all, you made it. Sometimes I get to typing and I just can't stop. Report It It does seem to be happening that way. I believe the reason is a 2-part reason that both parts must be present in order to allow this to happen. I am actually surprised that this is not happening more than it actually is. |
