How to find preferred stock symbols?

How do I find a company's preferred stock symbol? For example, Bristol Myers (BMY) has a preferred stock symbol of XFR. I tried yahoo finance, tdameritrade. etc...

Stock tickers for preferred stocks can be quite confusing. The stock exchanges don't have a nice neat standard for dealing with the topic. For example, NYSE preferreds usually have a PR embedded (xxPRx). Nasdaq doesn't.

So many of the stock info suppliers (like Yahoo) have devised their own ticker system. On Yahoo for example the preferreds have a -P (or -Px) suffix. But it will be something else on Schwab, and something else on Fidelity...

So the best way is simply to use your site's search mechanism. For example, on Yahoo if you search for 'Bristol' you'll get a long list, but it will include BMY-P which is Yahoo's ticker for the Bristol Myer Preferred.
