How do you determine the amount of shares outstandings?

If you don't care to look up the report, you can go to just about any stock quote tool, which will give you the market cap and last close price. Since the market cap of the company is made up of (share price X shares outstanding) divide the market cap by the last close price and voila.

*keep in mind that market cap is often listed in (mil), so get your extra zeroes in there.

You look up their web site... or at least look at their SEC filings... most companies list their outstanding shares.

Look at their last quarterly or annual report, the 10-Q or 10-K respectively.

Hey Mate..!! you always got to check their annual report. Since it will have information on outstanding shares.
