ir past histories, have cash flow from business contracts and that you can see should make a profit and buy them when noone else is? and wait for the big investors to pile in?

Yes, but also consider the industry they are in. Healthcare, retail, insurance and financials are good places to invest. Another thing to consider is its price. If its selling well below its real value, buy it, buy it, buy it!!!
