Why does Bhutto's death impacting our stock market this morning?

Articles state the stock market trade lower on her death.

Why? What does her death has anything to do with how the market performs?

Some good and not so good answers so far.

What matters here is geo-strategic considerations:
Pakistan is located in a very unstable area because of nuclear weapons and oil.

-Pakistan and India have launched into a frightening nuclear arms race which mainly rest on religious rivalry -Muslim faith vs. Hinduism.

-Also, Pakistan shares a border with oil rich Iran and to a lesser extent is a neighbouring country to the oil monarchies of the Persian Gulf like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates.

-Finally, Pakistan has a very long, mountainous, unchecked, and uncheckable border with Afghanistan where several thousands of Western soldiers from the US, Europe, Canada, Australia, and a few others are fighting Taliban insurgents.

If you look at the global picture, Iran, the most evil of the rogue state according to G. W. Bush, is surrounded by both Iran and Afghanistan where Western troops are present >>> The whole world is afraid of Iran and the war mongering declarations of Armadinedjad -sorry for the spelling if incorrect.

Thus, any trouble in Pakistan means that the efforts to stabilize and pacify the region could be annihilated and that the price of oil could well skyrocket to $120-$130 a barrel.

Happy new year.

That is very interesting.

Maybe it has something to do with Paki. oil or something!

Heads will roll if my savings have gone down again

Shares in DurkaDurkaJihadCorp dropped a point.

No, really, instability anywhere means another country may commit resources to the problem, which dries up international cash, thus affecting trade.

We think the same thing of the US stock market.

Because a lot of industry and products and most of our telecommunications and internet support come from India which has historically been an enemy of Pakistan and they share a common border. If there is a revolt or a coup in Pakistan, then it would most likely spread into India. Both countries also have nuclear bombs.

sorry top guy u helpd me onec and i really whant 2 do same but i don't hope u will find out , good luck

Uncertainty. There is now a question of whether or not there will be a change in political leadership in Pakistan -- a country that has approximately 100 nuclear weapons. The market is concerned that those weapons might find their way into the hands of Islamic extremists.

Bhutto represented one of the best chances for a return to democracy in Pakistan, as she was the last legally elected President of the country before the last military coup. With her passing, the chances of Pakistan returning to a freely elected government in the near future are greatly diminished, and the likelihood that tensions will rise in the region are greatly increased.

There are other reports coming out that have been depressing the market too.
Unemployment for last week was up 1000, which isn't too bad, but right now the figure is at 349,000 total claims, and has been steadily climbing...360,000 is the traditional level where a recession is operating...so, this had an impact.
The durable goods report came out, and it missed expectations. The Concensus was anticipating 3.0%, and it came out as .1% Not so hot, and so that had an impact.
The attack on Bhutto impacted the market how traditional attacks of this nature does...Oil.
Pakistan is not a real Oil producer, but this is just a hallmark incident of the instability in the region. Pakistan is the single greatest threat in the world today, as they are highly politically unstable (especially since Musharraf stepped down as military leader, since in that country, the military leader is essentially the supreme political player) and they ARE a nuclear power. Presently, they are the center of our war against Al-Qaeda, and they are at under a cease-fire with India over Kashmir. So any kind of signs of political instability means that the region can be dragged into a full on war. The biggest threat is that there is a huge radical islamist presence in Pakistan and the tribal regions are NOT under the control of Islamabad. So if we get a radical at the helm of the government, they will be armed with Nuclear weapons and be in a very real position of escalating the war with India and becoming a safe haven for terrorists.

Because of this, a lot of eyes are focused on Pakistan.

Bhutto's death will not have any impact on indian stock market. If market will trade lower then it will only because it is overbought. Not because of Benazir bhutto's Death

Haven't seen the articles you mention yet (but haven't looked). Bhutto's death means less chance for a truly democratic election in Pakistan in a couple weeks, meaning there's a big chance that 'if' Musharraf 'wins' the presidential election that there will be popular unrest in one of USA's best allies in the region, which may lead to greater uncertainty of peace and a better chance of war expanding and intensifying in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iraq, Iran, yada yada. It's become a ripple/turtle effect quickly in the markets while the rest of us watch to see what happens over the next few months. Uncertainty is not the best thing for the markets.

Because it will lead toDe-stabilation of the oil markets as well as the concerns over the fact they have the Bomb.
??

it's just a coincidence. Bhutto will past, and the stock market will continue to go up and down... and then the media has to find another excuse for why the stock market went down.

i dotn know who Bhutto is or why his death should impact anything.
