How can I find out about a stock purchased in 1930? |
I recently found a receipt in some of my mother's things for shares of C.S. Preferred stock of Cities Service Co. on 3-28-1930. The money was apparently sent to Henry L. Doherty and Co of New York. Is there any way to trace this stock and find out what happened to it? There was a company called Cities Service in Oklahoma back in the 70s, a natural gas pipeline company. They changed hands several times in the 80s and I think they finally ended up with the Williams Co. of Tulsa. Check with them or the Secretary of State of Oklahoma to see what happened to the preferred stock. Or maybe check with the Unclaimed Property at the state treasurers office. They have an an online database to search by names. type it in google If the company is still in business, they will have records pertaining to this stock purchase. yes, along with the above suggestions, you might want to go to a business library that has the Dun & Bradstreet reference volumes and/or a subscription to the D&B Million Dollar Databases. |
