How do I become a stock broker?

I am considering a career in stock broking and was wondering what is the necessary requirements for becoming one other than the series 67 exam. I am 18 years old and a freshman in college.

Basically you need good personal skills and a good work ethic. Many brokers work long hours their first two years or so in the business until they establish a good client base to give them referals.

Honesty is important since you will be dealing with NASD and state compliance issues. You also should be good around other people and pleasant, good telephone mannerisms, well kept appearance and flexible enough to go out on appointments and sit around the potential client table being able to answer their questions and identify what their investment objectives are and to be able to find a suitable solution to meet those objectives. Generally speaking, intelligent, neat and outgoing.

First finish your degree. You will need it for most brokerage firms. Then go talk to them. try Edward Jones. I worked for them once. They will hire you, sponsor you for the series seven which is what you need to sell stocks. I think the sixty seven is the state exam. Jones will do something to help support you for a few months while you get some business. They are brutal if you don't sell anything. The process weeds out the ones that cant sell. Go for it. It is a sales job. A good one.
