Once a person has been approved for ssa how long does it take to get your first check and do you get back pay?

I was approved for ssa on 4/16

Yes, you do receive back 'pay'.

It will take months. You have finished the most difficult part of the process: Approval.

Probably only a couple months after approval. It's the approval that can takes years.
