How much does credit affect the amount paid for car insurance?

How much does credit affect the amount paid for car insurance?

There are plenty of reputable insurance companies out there that do not pull credit; for example: Erie and Kemper. I have found that Erie (not offered in all states), is cheaper than the other "big boys" (State Farm, Allstate, etc) for the same coverage. I would suggest going to an Independent Agent for quotes. Simply let them know you do not want credit pulled as a basis for coverage.

the better your credit the less you pay in premiums. insurance companies have what they call "tiers". the better the credit the higher the "tier" you go into. credit is however only one factor in what you pay.

Well, it's a moderate amount, but not as much as say a DUI. So driving record is still more important, most of the time.

You can't say "oh, 20%" because that's not true. What a lot of companies do, is look at your score, and say, ok, the SCORE is "tier 4" for rates. Then they look at your violations, and add two for an accident, one for a ticket, two for a youthful driver, etc. And whatever the tier you end up with in the end, is the RATE that you get.

So credit is more the STARTING point, than the ending point.

if your credit is bad you pay high costs if good cheaper
