Mt hous burned down. How much money will insurance give me for the things lost?

Insurance Is state farm.
State Is georgia.
I lived in a room of my parents house. The entire house was lost. I have written a list of the thing lost in the fire that were MINE and in my room.
The total amount seems to exceed 15,000$.How much money is insurance going to give me?

I'm sorry your family has suffered such a loss. Fires are really devastating.

The policy isn't going to pay *you* anything. They will pay your parents, as your parents are the ones that own the house, and the insurance policy.

They will pay your parents up to the amount of personal property coverage they have on the policy. For State Farm it is usually 70-80% of the amount of coverage on the house itself, though your parents could have chosen to purchase more.

Chances are they weren't carrying enough coverage. Most people don't carry enough, never expecting a total loss.

You're going to have to talk to your parents about how much of the settlement they will give you to replace your things. Give them a copy of the list you made up so they can include that with the other information they give the insurance adjustor.

Best of luck!

You would have to llok at the policy to see what it covers for contnents. It will probably cut one check for all the contents. They don't want separate lists from each room.

Your parents will get a check and they can replace your items.

It depends on
(a) how much the insurance was for ... for example, if the stuff that was lost was worth $15,000 but the insurance was only for $ 5,000, then the max you can get is $ 5,000.
(b) if you have proof that stuff existed before it was destroyed by fire. For example, before the fire, you went around your home with a video camera to shwo what was there, and left the tape in your safety deposit box at the bank, then anyone can see what stuff you had that was destroyed. If there is no evidence for insurance company to see what was lost, then you can only hope for a generic settlement, included in that of the whole building
(c) how come the building burned down ... if someone in the home had an accident, like fell asleep with cigarette, or other negligence, the insurance company can legitimately refuse to pay because basically that person burned down the home
(d) what kind of insurance you had ... did it cover whatever caused the building to burn down ... like if there was a lightning strike but you did not have insurance against weather disturbances
(e) the nature of your insurance claim ... for example, you could claim cost of staying at motel after you lost your lodging, cost of buying replacement clothing after your closet contents were lost

i dont know ring them and find out sorry for your loss xxx

they are not going to pay YOU anything, they will pay your parents. they should pay up to the limits on personal property they carried. if they had replacement on the policy, its usually 70% of the coverage amount on the home. Ex: if they carried 100,000 on the coverage of the home itself, they would normally have 70,000 coverage for personal property.
