How can I find out if a Life Ins Policy has been paid on my mother to my sister.?

My sister was in charge of probate until I came back from overseas in my mothers death. Then I took over, But she had came into some moneys all of a sudden and tried saying that she won a large amount in the lottery, We searched that and found nothing, so now the other siblings and I beleived that she received benefits from a ins policy, We wouldn't have put it past her to try and take a policy and sign my moms name to it just for that purpose to benefit since she was left nothing in the Will. We have proof that she had tried to have her husband act as our father once to have my mother taken off some bills on the house that they were living in of my parents, Which they did this 3yrs after my father passed. So yea that one was quiet obvious. We just are trying to find out if she collected on a life insurance policy on our mom..

As awful as it sounds, you may have to take her to court.

You have no way of finding this out, because of privacy reasons.

If you know the name of the insurance company she had a policy with, just call them and ask who was paid.
After the death of someone the companies don't usually mind telling to whom the benefits were paid.

First of all, there is no central database. Second of all, she could ONLY have gotten money from the policy, if she was the named beneficiary. Insurance companies make the checks payable DIRECTLY to the beneficiaries. So it's not like she defrauded you of it. Period.

OK, so now YOU are the legal executor of your mother's estate, right? With the court paperwork to prove it?

So you take your proof that you're legal executor. Go to your mother's bank. As executor get copies of her cancelled checks for the past ten or twenty years, find out which insurance company she's been paying for her life insurance (there's no database, so you have to backtrack to find out where the policy is). Then you call them, fax over the executor agreement again, and they'll tell you if a claim was filed, if it was paid, and who the beneficiary is.

If you're not legal executor, you can't do any of this, and it's just idle speculation. Time to just move on and get over it.
