Question about insurance and invitro???

does anybody know of a insurace that will cover most or all of the costs of invitro?????

Insurance companies don't cover it as a standard benefit.

However, all insurance companies will offer the coverage to employees of an organization who wishes to add it to their group benefits.

Basically, your best hope of coverage is to get a job with an employer who has it on their benefit plan. But be forewarned that its a rarity...I'd estimate that less than 5% of employers have it on their plans, and even the ones who do have limitations. (The # of times they'll pay for and/or a dollar maximum limit, etc.)

Otherwise, start saving and prepare to pay out of your pocket.

I don't know of one that specifically does. Some will cover part of the costs related to invitro IF you have been trying to get pregnant and/or have tried other types of fertility treatment for a set period of time and still have been unsuccessful. More insurances will cover all or some of the related costs for trying other less invasive measures such as Intra-uterine insemination. That's what we did. Again, some insurances will only begin to cover if you attempt an IUI like three times without success or something.

Best bet, go to a clinic with which you would want to work. They often know a LOT about the various insurances and might be better able to help you.

Most insurers exclude coverage for in vitro fertilization procedures, since they are considered elective and not essential to the health of those covered under the policy.

The ONLY insurance that will cover it, would be a group policy through your employer. Even then, there's a limited number of attempts, and copays and deductibles.

There isn't any private insurance that covers it - the only people that would buy it, would be the ones using it, which eliminates the whole "spread the cost out" part of insurance. It's not a sudden/accidental/unpredictable illness thing, either. It's basically a planned expense, kinda like cosmetic surgery.

Most will cover it, as long as the doctor approves it..
