MCD Eligibility - Who is eligible?

My adult son, 21 years old, lives at home. He recently had emergency surgery to remove his Appendix. He is in college, works only part time and has little money. After payment by his "college health insurance", he still owes over $10,000. Is he eligible for MCD coverage in the state of Michigan?

What's MCD? If it's a medicaid aka welfare based insurance, you have to go to the website, and plug in the total number of household members, and the total household income.

Likely if he can afford to go to college, even if it's mostly on studen loans, he's not going to qualify for medicaid.

Tell him to get a part time job - or a second part time job. Two years of delivering pizzas on weekends will pay this off.

Probably not since he still lives with you, your income would be counted. But he should contact the hospital Financial Counseling or Business Office to see if there may be other assistance available to him. Sometimes, they have charity programs. They would also probably be able to quickly tell him if he wold qualify for medicaid and be able to direct him to the proper office to apply.
