I just switched my insurance at work to hmo. Now i found out I am pregnant. Is this a prexxisting condition.?

Also, should i wait till my coverage starts at the beginning of the month to go to the doctor. I live in Pa if that matters.

You had no lapse in coverage, right? It's going to be covered.

I don't know what your HMO says, but if they try to deny your claim I don't think even a minimum wage attorney would have any problem getting them to cover it. You can also call your State Attorney General's office; many of them have staffers specifically for handling Medical Insurance abuse.

Also, it would be considered a "Life Changing Event" and therefore you are completely eligible and entitled to change all of your coverage should you feel it necessary.

No-it's your perogative to change at open enrollment. There is no-pre-existing when you have had previous coverage.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

In CA, HMO's do not have pre-existing condition clauses in them. Even if you were un-insured, your benefits and claims will be paid. Remember, tho, you must follow the rules and regulations of your plan. You MUST be referred to any specialist by your Primary Care Physician (the only exception to this is your annual well woman exam but you will still need to go to an ob/gyn in the same medical group as your PCP.

HIPAA law prohits pregnancy to be a pre-existing condition.
Plus you had no lapse in coverage so pre-existing penalties could not apply.

Congrats on your pregnancy. I pray it goes well for you.
