Is it legal to ask a repair shop to waive your deductible? |
(ie billing it to the insurance company) It doesn't exactly work that way. Some will give you a high estimate, just so the insurance will pay more, and you will not have to pay it. I don't see why it would be illegal , dishonest but not illegal , depending on the amount of your deductible chances are the insurance company will know the shop is padding the expenses.. Having the repair Co. agree to inflate the cost of Yes, it would be illegal. Padding an insurance claim or billing the insurance company one amount and actually charging less would be insurance fraud. No, it's illegal. There's even a term for it - burying the deductible. In most cases the body shop will submit a supplement for " hidden damages" sometimes the adjuster will inspect these damages, other times, if the shop is reputable, he will just let it slide, it depends on the shop. It's not illegal for you to ask. I have seen claims where the shop would not install parts to save the insured their deductible, |
