Can you add dependents to an existing Cobra plan? |
My children will be without health insurance when their father terminates his insurance to go on Medicaid. I am on a post-divorce Cobra plan...can my children be added as dependents onto my insurance? We have joint custody. If you have custody, they cannot be added just because they were covered on another plan by your spouse. However, if you are gaining custody and responsibility, they can be added as a "change in Lifestyle". You need to check with yoru company's plan to be 100 percent sure. Good luck! I really don't think so... sorry but check No. Cobra is EXACTLY how it was the last day of employment. You can't add, drop, or change anything. Period. BUT, you can check with your state children's health insurance plan, to see if they are eligible for coverage that way. |
